ABOUT MODERN JIVE

Modern Jive (sometimes called "ceroc","le roc", "Blitz" or "Mojive"- which are business names) is an exciting new movement in the dance world. Thousands of people are getting into it because it's easy to learn and because it can be danced to so much of today's contemporary "top-40s" music. On top of that, Modern Jive is sexy and romantic and a great way to keep fit and nimble. Modern Jive ranges from very basic footwork moves, to full aerials, bordering on acrobatics. People of all ages, shapes and sizes enjoy Modern Jive around the world and now you can learn to dance online.

Now you can learn this great style at your own pace, in the privacy of your own home and then hit the town with confidence. There's no need for you to be embarrassed or feel inadequate in an unfamiliar pulic environment before you've got a few steps mastered.

If you're already a modern jive dancer, this site allows you to learn moves that all your friends haven't seen yet. BROWSE: When you press the "begin browsing" button you will see the list of dance lessons on file. For each dance lesson, you will see a photo of one of the moves in the routine as well as a list of the moves that the lesson includes. The complete dance lesson videos include footage of the routine being danced to music and a talk-through lesson (without music) on how to perform the dance moves. You get them both for the one price. The lesson video files are full resolution - 720 wide by 576 high, the same as broadcast standard definition Pal TV. This means the files are large, some may be over 20MB. See the download section for more details. If you click on the photo, you will be presented with a larger version of that photo. If, after reading and viewing the photo, you'd like to purchase that dance lesson, click the button "add to cart". At this point you will prompted to register or to login if you've previously registered. This is very fast and easy. See the registration section for more details. Once this is complete, you are given a shopping cart that is permanent. At any point, you can continue browsing or complete the checkout process.

REGISTER: The registration process collects information about you and provides you with a membership and a login at our site. You only have to do this once. By providing your email you allow us to contact you with news about product updates. Don't forget to subscribe to the newsletter if you'd like to know about these updates. We will never sell or distribute any of your information, it is for our purposes only in serving your dance needs. The reason why you are asked for a postal address is because at some time in the future, we may be selling tangible products and then we will need to know where to ship them.

DOWNLOAD: With the exception of the free samples, you must pay for your files before you can download them. Payment is made through Paypal where you can pay with a regular credit or debit card or with your Paypal account (if you have one). As soon as you have paid with Pay pal, they notify us and your download is immediately available. Paypal will send you back to our download page. The file you download after purchasing is far bigger and better than the preview you see here. Some files are larger than 20MB. For those on broadband DSL @ 512 kbps this should only take around 7 minutes per file. For dial-up users @ 56k it could be as long as an hour. Set it to download while you're asleep! If your download is interrupted you are given another 4 attempts over the next 4 days. After that time, you're out of luck. So if your computer gets stolen before you download your file, borrow your mum's or your neighbor's inside 4 days.

PLAY: The video files that you download are encoded in XVID or mpeg4. These files can be played on your computer provided you have the codec installed. It's free to download and easy to install. Click here.

If you want to play these files on your loungeroom DVD player, you have 2 options. One is to purchase a DVD player that plays mpeg4 files. Many modern players do this. However, if you're buying a player specifically to play our files, then you'd better take a disk to the shop and try it before you buy it because the compatibility issues can be complex. The second option is to convert the file to a DVD compatible mpeg2 file and there are many good free tools out there for this purpose. If you use Nero to burn DVD media, version 7 can re-encode these videos for you before burning so that virtually any DVD player can play them. Why do we encode to XVID? Because you get the same quality for around one fifth of the download size. The download link for the codec is in green above.

The dance style depicted in these videos is "Modern Jive". Many people know this style of dancing as "Ceroc" but this is a company name instead. Modern Jive moves are sourced from many forms of dancing. Teachers and students adapt moves to their own styles and give those moves their own names. To our knowledge there is no ownership of any of these moves or their given names and it will be a sad day for dancing when there is.
